Chelmsford - in that case you better come to my golf club and remove the supplementary scorecard entry book, from the competition entry section of the changing rooms.

Whilst your at it, tell the handicap secretary to ignore all the supplementary scorecards he processes and the resulting handicap adjustments.

Whilst your at it, tell the competitions secretary, not to let players enter competitions, who've kept their handicap active, by using supplementary scorecards.

If you have a minute, i suggest you contact the English Golf Union and tell them this area of their website is wrong:-

Lee Porter is fantastic club maker and teaching golf pro, but he's wrong about this. I'll tell him when I see him for a session later this month.

I still love it ted but prefer being a non member, although many would still label me a 'member'

I miss the competition ! a knackered wrist and a couple of old football injuries have really put pay to my golf.
Fortunately Frinton has a nice little 9 hole course as well so I get over there now and again against consultants orders.
I was a member at Clacton for 10 years then joined Frinton for 15 years I'm now just a social member but as I said I miss it badly.

Re: Taking up golf
westside, most clubs have a senior section, stretching handicaps to that far is ridiculous. and almost of the old uns at the club I was at had no problem maintaining a 20+ handicap. fucking wrinkly bandits

West side, I think I'lol stick with Lee porters advice as he's the one that told me the rules had changed.

Re: Taking up golf
Ted, if I entered competitions I probably would, but then on the other hand I might see what the prize is first for winning. It was just a lot easier when you handed in your three cards a year.

Re: Taking up golf
Mallard, it depends on who you're playing with. If you play to a different level then it evens it up so a 28 handicapper could go round opinion 100 and would be level par whereas someone who plays off ten would have to round in 82 . It just gives everyone a chance to win no matter what your ability.

Also some courses won't let you play unless you have an official handicap certificate.

Re: Taking up golf
up to 54? what sort of cunt came up with that idea?

Mike - the idea is to allow older people to keep playing, who physically can't hit the ball far enough to maintain a 28 handicap.

Yes mate when I was playing regular comps a few years back if you played above your handicap you got .1 back and so on.
You're obviously playing good golf and if you wanted to you could always see your secretary a volunteer a cut !!

Re: Taking up golf
"Ted, your original handicap is worked out like that but you can no longer hand in three cards a year and have your handicap updated. The only way you can now update it is by playing in competitions""

Absolutely wrong.

There is a "Supplementary Scorecard "system. You can submit a non competition card at any time, the only conditions being that you must sign in (in a book, or on a computer, so the round is treated as a supplementary score) before you commence the round and the card must of course be marked by another club member.

There are limits, I think 6 supplementary scorecards a year (to try to encourage people to play competitions), but you only need to submit 3 a year to keep your handicap active.

So what exactly is the advantage of having a handicap?

Re: Taking up golf
Ted, your original handicap is worked out like that but you can no longer hand in three cards a year and have your handicap updated. The only way you can now update it is by playing in competitions. Its a fucking stupid idea as it means its a lot more open to abuse. Because i dont play competitions at my club it means i play off 15 but most of the time score around 80-83. not being funny but if i decided to enter a comp id probably win it because my handicap is too high. Id then be accused of being a bandit when theres nothing i can do about it other than to enter a comp to have my handicap redone.

ted fenton 1:33 Sun Sep 6
Re: Taking up golf
Unless it has changed it used to be worked out on the three cards submitted with the best two and worst two holes ignored an average is then calculated to determine your handicap.

Re: Taking up golf
TM, if your best round of the three was 15 over that's where your handicap came from.

Re: Taking up golf
comma, I know that you doughnut :.)

three strokeplay cards, shot nothing special, 15 handicap, BOOM

fucking cheating cunts

, 1:17 Sun Sep 6
Re: Taking up golf
TM, the convention is that you put in three cards, each signed by a club member, and your handicap is worked out from that. They must be stroke play, not Stableford cards too.

It helps if you belong to a private members club too because all players are known and the chance of a newcomer turning up and having everyone over is minimised.

bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuno

Pro's don't have handicaps :-)

Just listened to the proposals on the Golf Monthly link and these club higher handicap rules are IMO going to make play even slower !
Seems to me that club members are in decline and they're trying different ways of attracting new members !!

As said previously it will also create even bigger Bandit's.
